Click on the below image to watch a YouTube video of stock Moog replacement bushings. Watch how much they compress and stretch during normal driving at slow speeds. This deflection results in the lower ball joint and steering arm moving around while driving. This in turn alters the caster and toe resulting in a twitchy car that wanders all over the road.
The fix used to be to install polyurethane bushings. This stopped the rod compressing and stretching but didn't allow the rod to pivot at the frame when the suspension cycles up and down. The result is stress on the rod right at the threads which can eventually result in it snapping!
The fix is to install our Adjustable Strut Rods. Not only do they eliminate the compression and stretching issues of the stock rod, they also allow the suspension to cycle up and down freely. Oh, and the tube is left hand and right had threaded to allow for easy caster adjustment.
Click on the below image to watch the same car AFTER installation of our Adjustable Strut Rods. Notice how smooth the suspension cycles up and down with no change in strut rod length. This results in a much more stable car that drives straighter and won't dart all over the road under braking.

"Shirley" 1967 Mustang coupeI've run approx 75K miles on stock OEM front end components. I performed a 1" Shelby drop; and have been running approx 3 deg positive caster; with the UCAs shimmed backward; and the OEM strut rods adjusted to pull the lower control arms nearly full forward. Camber is set @ neg .75 degrees. Stock small block coil springs cut down one winding. On the rear axle; I added a home fabbed panhard rod and Bilstein Street valved shocks. That is it.
This set up transformed the car from nearly dangerous and unsettled at speed and under hard braking/cornering; to very predictable near/at the limit of the tires; and I've run with this set up for a few summers, including a trip cross country; 10K miles on back roads...
I share this as prerequisite to my review; just to help others whom may be exploring upgrade paths from OEM; and if on a budget, as a lot can be gained via working with the stock components while learning how to set up the car.
I had replaced my OEM strut rod bushings several years back; and thought they were adequate; and worried about ride harshness if these bushings are removed. These concerns were immediately laid to rest!
Installing the Street or Track strut rods was a snap; as they are of high quality and complete as shipped. I was both pleased and very surprised at how dramatically they improved the stability of steering under hard cornering, braking, on ramps; and at highway speeds. I really had no idea how much steering input I was adding under those conditions with the OEM strut rods until experiencing zero steering cross talk with the new strut rods as the lower control arm was working under high transient loads.
My car is manual steer; and i had installed an OEM GT steering box; so I could already "feel" the road before the upgrade; but again; I did not appreciate the amount of corrections I was routinely making when hustling the car.
Eliminating those large rubber bushings really does make a step change in the handling; and predictability on the street. I can now vouch personally for claims that the car is much easier to drive hard and I want to thank Street or Track and Shaun for the effort to produce a top notch product for these "old" cars.Street or Track LLCDec 2, 2024, 10:35Thank you for the great review! I am very glad you are so happy.
Removing the stock rubber and adding our Adjustable Strut Rods makes a massive improvement. Glad you were able to experience that.

James StidhamThese installed quick and look very strong. The range of adjustment will help get alignment perfect and it was very easy get the temporary settings dialed in. The loss of alignment days are over!

Mischa - SwitzerlandI now have the new SOT strut rods installed. I'm really impressed by the handling of the car. It has improved and I'm very happy with it.

Jason S.The stock strut rods used to make the car wander so much under braking, I had to put the car in the middle of the track into 10a (Road Atlanta) because I never knew which way it was going to wander. With the Street or Track Adjustable Strut Rods I can put it right next to the grass at 142mph, nail the brakes and it stops in a straight line building confidence and making me faster

Bill M.I bought your strut rods about 5 months ago and put them on right before I put the car in the body shop to have my bent sheet metal repaired from my wild hard braking spin last fall. The improvement is amazing the car stops in a straight line, there is less bumpsteer when driving down a straight bumpy road! Thanks!
